Use of Force

The club was first given permission to open by Master Jeremy Yau in 1997. We have trained at the same venue  at  St.George, Bristol now for over 10 years.

The club Instructors are Lau Gar Kung fu Instructors teaching the full syllabus of the style, So we can offer the new student a great start in Kung fu training.

We train more towards self defence rather than sport. Self-defence is preparation to minimize the possibility of assault. It is training to learn and use appropriate and effective physical actions and strategies if there is no practical available alternative.

Self-defence instruction is the beginning of a process of learning how to avoid becoming a victim.
Many victims of assault are victims not because they lack the capacity to win fights, but because they have been given absolutely NO preparation to cope with this kind of contact with violence. Self defence starts with a basic awareness of what hazards you face, if you know what they are you stand a better chance of avoiding them. The old-fashioned view that self-defence instruction is training to reach a high level of fighting skill has the effect of eliminating those individuals who have the greatest need. It is precisely those people who are unable or unwilling to become fierce fighting machines who benefit from practical self-defence instruction to the greatest degree. Our capabilities ought to bear some relationship to real-life objectives.

The clubs philosophy is that an individual can be taught to be kind and gentle yet firm and powerful. We teach students to be well-rounded martial artists. We have a relaxed friendly atmosphere where students are encouraged to develop there own skills and fitness level.

Kung fu translates to:-  work effort / skill.

We hold all Gradings up to and including Brown sash at St.George so our students will not be required to travel  to a regional gradings  (Apart from Black sash's) these are done by Master Yau in Birmingham.

Lau Gar™ has been  in Bristol since the 1970's.

There's a  large number of clubs teaching Lau Gar throughout the U.K. as it's been around for over 35 years, however not all of these will be authorized or qualified to teach Lau Gar to it's 2008 syllabus, so before you spend your hard earned cash it's worth checking out the Instructor and the club who will teach you is registered and has passed the Instructors training  by the British Kung Fu Association.

Instructors for Lau Gar Now have to undergo additional training from the BKFA before permission to teach is passed down, this is to keep the standard of the Instructors to a national level acceptable by Master Yau.

The BKFA Club list  is updated every time a new club has been given permission by Master Jeremy Yau to teach Lau Gar all clubs that are authorized are listed there.
