Living
the Kung Fu lifestyle
Training in Kung fu is like
rowing a boat up the river against the current you will move forward with
each training session, As long as you put the effort in.
Stop your effort and you
won’t stay in the same place,
The current in time will take you backwards.

Kung Fu means to apply oneself to something
or Skill
Wushu is the Chinese term for martial arts.
The term Kung Fu
gained popularity in the 1960,s and 70's with the help of Bruce Lee.
Kung Fu was brought to China from India along, with Zen Buddhism, by a
man named Bodhi Dharma around 520 AD. (some might argue that it was
already in existence as far back as 3,000 BC.)The Shaolin temple in
China was where Bodhi Dharma taught the local monks and this became the
centre of martial arts development for hundreds of years. It was from
the Shaolin temple that Kung Fu spread throughout Southeast Asia and
branched into the Korean, Japanese, Okinawan, Thai, Vietnamese,
Filipino, and Indonesian styles that we see today. Kung Fu itself has
fragmented incredibly over the years and there are now as many as 1500
styles practised. Sometimes written as Gung Fu.
Have you ever
had a month off to recover from an injury or a long holiday? when
you come back, the people you train with just seem so much sharper than
you are. That's how quick you
can lose your fitness levels. If you are not training at a higher
physical level then it won't really make any difference one month or six
as you have to get fit before you can lose your fitness.
What makes a
martial artist different from the average person in the street ?
Their training
If you train
properly your body will go through change's as it gets more use to the
additional strain being put on it through the extra effort of training
on a regular basis.
Diet
is a big part of any physical training program. What you eat and
drink will have a major effect on how the body performs. Kung fu is the art of self control through exercise and technique this
includes the discipline of diet.
·
You are what you eat!
·
Eat clean and exercise daily and drink plenty of still
water.
·
This will allow you to train hard and recover quicker. The difference in your energy levels
will show within a few weeks
·
More energy = more mental awareness=
more options open to you in a fight
Think
of your cardiovascular training as power lifting for
the heart and lungs!
Just
as you need to keep the rest of the muscles in your
body strengthened for your martial art and your
health, even more importantly you need to do the
same for your heart and lungs. The only way to
strengthen these muscles is through cardiovascular
training program.

VO2 max is the
maximum volume of oxygen consumed by the body each minute during
exercise, while breathing air at sea level. Because oxygen consumption
is linearly related to energy expenditure, when we measure oxygen
consumption, we are indirectly measuring an individual's maximal
capacity to do work aerobically.
Skipping with a rope, jogging, running hill efforts,
sprint efforts, are aerobic activity.
Cardiovascular
work increase’s lung power by exercising at a harder V02
max level than normal, meditation will help control breathing and
create calmness, which will increase recovery times after a hard
session.
Your cardiovascular strength, will effect your heart rate levels, the
stronger you
become the more efficient your body will be when placed under the
physical
pressure of training your Kung fu, you will become faster, lighter,
healthier, and more analytical in your approach to sparring, fighting
and learning.
Cardiovascular
strength, and meditation are key factors to the higher levels of Kung fu
training they are the glue that hold all your technical work together.
Training your breathing
can’t be replaced or by passed,
